GLF Biodiveristy - Learn Lugisu.

Lugisu is the language spoken by the Bagisu (Mugisu for one person) who live in Bugisu. It is a Bantu language with noun classes and prefixes. It is also called Lumasaba. 1.8 million people live on Mount Elgon (600,000 in the main town of Mbale) and has at least 3 different dialects. It is very similar to the language spoken by the Luhyia in neighbouring Kenya.

Bantu languages share many similar ‘old’ words such as the words for water, baby and meat.

Here are some words and phrases to get you going.
